Quinte West (Trenton, Sidney, Murray)

Trenton is at the heart of the amalgamated city of Quinte West, which includes the townships of Sidney and Murray, and the Village of Frankford. Located along the beautiful Bay of Quinte, Quinte West is the southern gateway to the well-known Trent-Severn Waterway and it is the ideal spot for the angler, boater or vacationer who just wants to get away from it all. The downtown area is highlighted by two marinas, boat launches, fishing piers and a variety of shopping and entertainment experiences.
Head to the marina area and watch boats embark on their journey up the Trent-Severn Waterway. You can get a great seat at the Fraser Park Marina, which is also one of the stops along Trenton’s stretch of the Waterfront Trail, a beautiful walking/cycling trail that joins Trenton with Hamilton along Lake Ontario. Take a leisurely stroll through the streets — you’ll marvel at the architectural beauty of local buildings, dating back to the turn of the 20th century.

If fishing is your idea of relaxing, then drop a line in one of the hottest fishing spots in Ontario. Each May Trenton hosts Walleye World Fishing Weekend, a live release fishing competition.

Surrounding the city of Trenton, there are numerous conservation areas, campsites, picnic grounds, beaches and marinas. The area boasts nine golf courses amongst other recreational activities. Oak Lake and Sager Conservation Area offers beautiful vistas because of its elevation. The area is part of a glacial feature known as Oak Lake Island. Camping and cottages are available on Oak Lake.

Sidney Ward is home to CFB 8 Wing and the Quinte International Air Show. Visit RCAF memorial museum to learn more about Canada’s military history and watch the Halifax Bomber being restored after years under water.

Murray Ward is home to the Murray Canal, which connects Presqu’ile Bay to the Bay of Quinte. Sport fishing is popular on Weller’s Bay and tourists and locals alike enjoy antique hunting and exploring flea markets and craft shops.

Located along the Trent River, north of Trenton, Frankford offers a varied selection of activities for visitors including:

  • 9 hole, 3 par golf course
  • modern arena
  • baseball diamonds – evening accessible
  • tennis courts
  • camping and trailer facilities
  • sport fishing

Frankford is a popular stopover destination for boaters travelling the Trent Severn Waterway. Frankford is also known as the “Wild Turkey capital of Ontario”, usually visible along the roadsides near Frankford. Enjoy the beautiful autumn colours in the village and to the north.
